The Pink Ribbon Program™

Post-Operative Workout Enhancing Recovery

For women with a personal history of breast cancer, exercise is critical. Even though breast cancer survivors might feel sore, exhausted and sick, experts agree that even gentle exercise increases the odds of survival, not to mention aiding in managing weight gain due to chemotherapy and improving overall outlook.

The Pink Ribbon Program™ is a series of modified Pilates exercises designed to help breast cancer survivors improve the range of motion in their arms, shoulders and other affected areas following surgery.

Created by a breast cancer survivor and exercise physiologist, the Pink Ribbon Program™ offers three phases, each lasting two to four weeks. Initially, the focus is solely on increasing range of motion. Then survivors begin to incorporate Pilates-based movements, and finally, they begin to work the body out more fully.

Exercise in general, and Pilates in particular, provide critical physical benefits to breast cancer survivors. But the mental relief it can also give is just as critical. Exercise may be the last thing you feel like doing after breast cancer surgery, but we promise you will see benefits once you start.

Benefits

How wonderful that there is now a program, developed by a breast cancer survivor, that can provide the following benefits in a small, private studio setting:

  • Gentle, restorative exercise
  • Regained strength & mobility in affected areas.
  • Improved self confidence & control
  • Retrained musculature of trunk for postural improvement
  • Reduced feelings of depression
  • Improved sleep
  • Enhanced energy levels
  • Weight control
  • Decreased stress & tension
  • Enhanced physical & mental well-being

Who can benefit?

All women who have undergone breast cancer surgery can benefit, no matter where they are in the recovery process. Following treatment, women are often given a conservative list of post-treatment exercise guidelines. Usually a woman can do more within those restrictions than she realizes. To help breast cancer survivors in workouts, the Pink Ribbon Program™ was designed to work within the safety guidelines but take it to the next step. We design individual plans based on each woman’s past treatment and current needs for physical therapy.

Gigi’s Pilates Studio is dedicated to promoting a healthy lifestyle and positive body image to all breast cancer survivors. In addition to STOTT PILATES™ certification, all instructors at Gigi’s Pilates Studio are certified Breast Cancer Post-Rehab Exercise Specialists.
